Anxiety
Mary Condell Hypnotherapy & Psychotherapy – Brighton & Hove, Sussex
We all have the ability to become anxious from time to time– it’s a natural human response and is part of our survival mechanism. Without the ability to feel anxious we would not be able to sense a potential threat and take action to keep us safe. (Fight/flight). Anxiety is also an inbuilt safety mechanism that prevents us from taking unnecessary risks.
Although it is designed to serve a useful purpose, many people who find themselves in the grip of anxiety feel thoroughly overpowered by this disabling condition.
Anxiety takes many forms. It can be experienced as extreme ongoing stress or general apprehension, leading to a feeling of being overwhelmed by simple situations. It may take the form of Social Phobias, preventing the sufferer from making enjoyable social connections or achieving promotion in the workplace.
Anxiety can be with something specific, like a phobia or maybe just a generalised feeling that that hangs around and seems to attach itself to every thought, making you to feel worried or disempowered.
Anxiety has a cumulative effect and left untreated, it can lead to more debilitating conditions such as OCD or Panic Attacks. When someone is experiencing anxiety in an intrusive or inappropriate way, it is time to seek help.

I first visited Mary at an extremely stressful time in my life and was suffering severe anxiety and panic. Mary’s wisdom and therapeutic technique helped at the first visit and I now try to see her regularly to manage my stress through a difficult time.
