Group Therapy
We all deserve to feel as though we can thrive and have a life that works. The purpose of my approach to group work is to encourage you to find and to nurture your own strengths and resources. You will learn skills and coping strategies so that you feel empowered to sustain yourself through difficult times, now and in the future.
The aim of group work is to blend a therapeutic approach with coaching. It provides a safe environment to speak about your issues and offers a practical solution focus to the everyday problems that people experience.
Most of us experience certain levels of stress or distress from time to time, with states ranging from feeling overwhelmed and pressured to ongoing anxiety or depression. These emotional difficulties affect our relationships, our ability to perform well at work and most of all they chip away at our self esteem, reducing the ability to take pleasure from life.
The benefit of working in a small group not only provides a lower cost alternative to therapy but also gives you an opportunity to connect with others and share experiences. The aim of the group sessions is to support and facilitate you and promote a positive sense of self worth and well being.
So, how does it work?
- The group meets every second Wednesday evening or Saturday morning (depending on which group you join). Both groups are based in the Brighton/Preston Park area.
- The group is restricted to six members. Each member makes a commitment to a minimum of eight sessions, as this allows us to form a cohesive working group by getting to know each other and building trust. When the group is full, others can be added to a waiting list and invited to take up a place should an existing member drop out.
- The first hour of each session allows enough time for each member who wishes to talk. The second hour is more focused and facilitated, based on the areas that are currently being explored.
- We will explore specific themes, based on the needs of the group.
- The cost is £20 per person per session. Missed sessions must be paid for. Members who pay for eight sessions in advance will receive a £20 discount.
I am an experienced psychotherapist, teacher and facilitator and greatly enjoy working in a group setting. I am skilled at accounting for the needs of each member and am careful to ensure that all discussions maintain the right balance and focus, for the benefit of all.
